CUMMINS AREA SCHOOL


The Cummins Area School was officially opened in 1942 by Sir Shirley Jefferies, Attorney General and Minister of Education in the Butler and Playford Governments from 1933 to 1944.

Since then the school has grown to service a large part of the Eyre Peninsula, providing cutting edge learning facilities to students and the local community. With such a rich history and an exciting future, the Cummins Area School strides forward in education, setting a standard.

The school is located in a rural setting and services families living on farms and those providing services in the town of Cummins which has a population of 800 people.

The school is served by nine school buses, which transport the greater majority of students to school each day.

The school offers a comprehensive educational programme from Preschool to Year 12 in line with DECD policies and guidelines. There are strong transition programmes between Pre-school and Reception, Year 7 and Year 8.

Subjects/Electives Years 7 to 10: English, Maths, Science, History Geography Personal Learning Plan (Compulsory), Agriculture, Physical Education, Food & Hospitality, Youth Opportunities, Art, Digital Technologies, Tech Wood, Tech Metal.

Subjects/Electives Years 11 and 12: English, English Pathways, Literacy for Work & Community Life, Pre-Mathematical Studies, Pre-Specialist Maths, Pre-Mathematical Applications, Numeracy for Work & Community Life, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Business & Enterprise, Pre-Research Project (SACE Compulsory), Agriculture, Physical Education, Sports Academy, Food & Hospitality, Child Studies, Art, Design & Technology – Wood Design & Technology – Metal.

Extracurricular activities: Camps & Excursions, Ski trips.
